AMMAN — HRH Princess Muna, patron for Nursing and Midwifery in the Eastern Mediterranean Region and president of the Jordanian Nursing Council, on Thursday inaugurated the international conference on gynaecology organised by the Royal Medical Services (RMS).

The two-day conference, titled “New horizons in women healthcare”, aims at acquainting employees of the health sector with the latest scientific developments in gynaecology and the progress witnessed in this specialisation, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

RMS Director General Maj. Gen. Muin Habashneh said that the gynaecology department at RMS has witnessed big developments in the few past years through the opening of new specialised clinics with qualified medical and nursing personnel and modern medical equipment.

Brig. Gen. Maher Maitah, head of the department, said that the gathering will cover several topics related to maternal-fetal medicine, women’s cancers, infertility and test-tube babies, among others.

Retired Lt. Gen. Dawood Hanania delivered a lecture titled “The pivotal role of the Royal Medical Services in the Jordanian health sector”, in which he reviewed RMS history, development and its contributions to boosting academic research at the local, regional and international levels.

The conference attracted specialised professors from the UK, Egypt, India, China and Turkey, in addition to doctors from the RMS, the Health Ministry, Jordanian universities and the private sector.

On the sidelines of the conference, Princess Muna inaugurated a medical exhibition held to support companies showcasing their modern medical equipment used in treating gynaecological diseases.

WHILE THIS IS AN EXCELLENT TOPIC BECAUSE WOMEN'S HEALTH IS THE MOST COMPLICATED AND IMPORTANT SPECIALITY OF MEDICAL PRACTICE, I WISH ALSO TO REMIND THESE SMART PROFESSIONALS THAT OUTCOME VARIABLES IN WOMEN HEALTH IS NOT ONLY THE FUNCTIONS OF HIGH TECHNOLOGICAL GADGETS BUT ALSO THE STATUS OF WOMEN IN CIVIL, HUMAN AND GENDER PARITY. AS PART OF MEDICINE 101, ONE OF THE CARDIAL PROTOCOLS FOR ANY OBGYN IS TO FIND OUT IF THERE IS ANY FORMS OF ABUSE IN THE FAMILY FROM CHILDREN TO SPOUSES. ABUSE COMES IN DIFFERENT FORMS FROM DENIAL OF FREEDOM TO PHYSICAL, PSYCHOLOGICAL AND MENTAL TORTURE. ALL THESE COMES UNDER PREVENTIVE MEDICINE AND IF DONE CORRECTLY WILL BE MOST COST EFFECTIVE. NO MEDICINE CAN CURE ABUSES OF FREEDOM BUT PUBLIC POLICIES.
