AMMAN — The Civil Defence Department (CDD) on Monday said it is “at the ready” for any emergencies during the Eid Al Fitr holiday, with inspection tours to parks, malls and theme parks planned to ensure public safety.

The CDD has also established temporary stations near areas expected to receive massive crowds during Eid and at tourism and archaeological sites, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

In a statement, the CDD called on the public not to leave children home alone without adult supervision to avoid incidents like fires, and it also urged them not to let children play with toys not meant for their age.

The CDD also urged parents not to buy firecrackers or pellet guns for their children.

The department also urged motorists to commit to the set speed limit and to exercise caution while driving to avoid road accidents.

The department urged the public to call 911 around the Kingdom in case of emergency.

In the last days of Ramadan, Jordanians were on a shopping frenzy, mainly for clothes and sweets, especially since Eid this year came at the start of July after employees received their salaries, Petra reported.

The Greater Amman Municipality’s transport department said it has taken the necessary measures to deal with the Eid holiday, which starts on Tuesday and concludes on Friday, in order to facilitate traffic flow and deal with the increased demand on public transportation.

Meanwhile, the Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) said it has a work plan in place to supervise food outlets during the holiday.

JFDA Director General Hayel Obeidat told Petra that the plan aims at ensuring that food at restaurants and shops is fit for human consumption.
